Dragon Hunter Wanted:Sword supplied. No experience necessary. One moment, I was a normal (if somewhat germaphobic) math teacher getting ready for summer vacation. Then my sister died in a pile of black ash, leaving me with a sword. And her destiny as dragon hunter.
It turns out there's a whole other world out there filled with demons, dragons, and spirits. Now my job is to protect mortals - and I haven't got a clue what I'm doing. Then there's tattooed hotness Ian Iskander. Part dragon hunter and part demon, Ian's got some seriously creepy business associates and keeps trying to steal my sword. So why do we keep getting lost in hungry, crazy-hot kisses? Ian is the only person who can help me figure out who - and what - I am.
But trusting a half-demon is dangerous. Because when you play with dragon fire, someone always gets burned. Without knowing if her friend, Butterfly, is even alive or dead, she writes night after night – a letter of friendship that turns into something more revealing and recriminating. By turns a belated outlet of rage, an act of self-defence, and an offering of forgiveness, the letter revisits a betrayal that happened a decade and a half before, and dissects what is left of a friendship caught between the forces of hatred and love.
Review 1: Sorry, this kind of gets old. Not only are our heroes struggling to find pennies to fund their hunt around the globe, they are also outclassed by all the other richer rivals who are also ruthless and not above attempting murder. How stacked can it get? Seemed like an unfair flaw in the underlying premise: that although they bear the surname, they are the poorer cousins.
Orphaned and yet not 'claimed' by the matriarch of the family in the financial sense for seven years, and on her death, sent on a hunt spanning the globe but without the means to fund it. Yet it seemed that both Grace and Hope Cahill (the grandmother and the mother) have been on the same hunt in their respective time, yet no funds have been put aside for these young 'uns to be at least on a level playing fi. Of course, the other thing that bugged me (as well as intrigue me) was how a bunch of writers got together to write books for this series.
How do they agree on the plot? Breaking up of the action? Development of characters? Example, who agrees for poor Amy to be conned by the slimeball Ian? This is the one part I am unhappy with. As if our heroes are not already at a disadvantage in so many areas - why add this?
It's unnecessary and unacceptable. At the end of the day, maybe I'm just missing Riordan's voice. I gotta wade through a lot more before Riordan comes back (Book 11)review 2: ATTENTION!
